At the same time, Hagen and Pentangeli draw analogies with Roman history, which is close to them as Italian mafiosi, when a person who fell out of favor with the emperor could commit suicide, avoiding a shameful execution and confiscation of property, which in this case remained with the family. The practices of Roman despotism and the Italian mafia, apparently, are applicable in other, albeit similar, contexts.

«Да, недооценил я степень непредсказуемости бюрократических судеб при авторитаризме. В связи со всем произошедшим с бывшим курским губернатором и министром транспорта мне почему-то вспомнился эпизод второй части Крестного отца, где Том Хейген, сводный брат Майкла Корлеоне, тонко намекает пошедшему против семьи Корлеоне бывшему партнеру Майкла по имени Пентенджели, что если тот добровольно уйдет из жизни, то его клан и недвижимость не тронут. При этом Хейген и Пентенджели проводят аналогии с близкой им, как итальянским мафиози, римской историей, когда попавший в императорскую немилость человек мог покончить с собой, избежав позорной казни и конфискации имущества, сохранявшегося в таком случае за семьей. Практики римского деспотизма и итальянской мафии, как видно, применимы и в других, пусть и схожих, контекстах.
