It's definitely scary. It's scary in itself. But what, in my opinion, is no less scary is our addiction to everything that happens. Perception of evil as the new norm. Everyday attitude towards violations of human and civil rights and freedoms.
It’s scary that we seem to be starting to get used to it, and we stop being indignant and surprised. On the contrary, we are surprised by something else: it seems strange to us that someone has not yet been recognized as a foreign agent, that a criminal case has not been opened against someone, that someone has not yet left the country. And if we see news about yet another repression, we catch ourselves thinking that this was expected.
It is important to remember that this is not normal. That no one should be infringed upon in their civil rights. That no one should leave their homeland against their will. That no one should go to jail for having an opinion. And of course, that no one should add to the lists of names that we remember today, on the day of remembrance of the victims of political repression.
This is all abnormal. But such a situation cannot last, not only forever, it cannot last for very long. What is happening to Russia is already continuing
too long, especially considering that this situation should not have happened in the first place. But while all this, unfortunately, continues around us, while this is happening, it is very important to remember the abnormality of what is happening, to be aware of it and not to forget, behind all this chaos, how everything should really be.
