"Regime Survival: The Case of Venezuela.
Recently, presidential elections were held in Venezuela, apparently with serious irregularities. According to official results, N. Maduro was re-elected for a third term.
These elections caused a wave of protests, but there is a suspicion that the ruling regime will be able to survive them. Of course we will
watch, anything is possible. But this one
the regime has already been able to survive several
very serious shocks.
To be honest, I can hardly understand what Maduro is still holding on to. The fact is that the economic model, which has the official name of Bolivarian socialism, failed under its founder Hugo Chavez. But if Chavez had at least personal charisma, then his successor Maduro does not have this resource. Venezuela's economy is in ruins.
The country's main source of income is oil. There's a lot of it there, almost
the world's largest proven reserves. But the level of economic incompetence of the authorities, coupled with corruption, is so great that the country lives in conditions of commodity shortages and poverty. During Maduro's reign, there were several very serious political crises there, one of which, associated with the name of oppositionist J. Guairo, already seemed to be the end of the regime. But no, the regime demonstrated miracles of survival. And if this is
at least some logical explanation is the fact that the politicians in power are smart enough to share the corruption rent with the security forces and thereby maintain their loyalty.
It is certainly interesting to observe the events in Venezuela and the subterfuges of the regime there from the outside: to what extremes can a once quite prosperous country be driven with impunity. But you need to understand that the Venezuelans themselves, at least the majority of them, are unlikely to enjoy these experiments.

"Выживаемость режима: пример Венесуэлы.
Недавно в Венесуэле прошли президентские выборы, судя по всему с серьезными нарушениями. По официальным результатам на третий срок был переизбран Н. Мадуро.
Выборы эти вызвали волну протестов, но есть подозрение, что правящий режим сможет их пережить. Конечно, будем
наблюдать, все может быть. Но этот
режим уже смог пережить несколько
очень серьезных потрясений.
Если честно, я с трудом могу понять, на чем до сих пор держится Мадуро. Дело в том, что экономическая модель, которая имеет официальное название боливарианский социализм, дала сбой еще при своем основателе Уго Чавесе. Но если Чавес имел хотя бы личную харизму, то у его преемника Мадуро и этого ресурса нет. Экономика же Венесуэлы лежит в руинах.
Основной источник дохода страны - нефть. Ее там очень много, чуть ли не
крупнейшие в мире разведанные запасы. Но уровень экономической некомпетентности властей вкупе с коррупцией настолько велик, что страна живет в условиях товарного дефицита и нищеты. За время правления Мадуро там было несколько очень серьезных политических кризисов, один из которых, связанный с именем оппозиционера Х. Гуайро, уже казался концом режима. Но нет, режим продемонстрировал чудеса выживаемости. И если этому есть
хоть какое-то логическое объяснение, то это тот факт, что политикам у власти хватает ума делиться коррупционной рентой с силовиками и тем самым сохранять их лояльность.
За событиями в Венесуэле и увертками тамошнего режима со стороны наблюдать безусловно интересно: до каких крайностей можно безнаказанно довести некогда вполне преуспевающую страну. Но нужно понимать, что самим венесуэльцам, по крайней мере большинству из них, эти эксперименты вряд ли доставляют удовольствие.
