about corruption and ideology. It seems that it is quite relevant in connection with the recent detention of the short-lived (May - December 2024) Kursk governor A. Smirnov, whose case involves kickbacks from contracts (so many in these sounds!..) for defense construction. Ideology is ideology, war is war, and rollbacks are on schedule.
It is worth adding that the previous – before Smirnov – governor of the Kursk region R. Starovoit, who was promoted to the new federal government in May 2024, that is, exactly three months before the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ invasion of the region, should be very happy with the current circumstances. Most likely, back in August he was glad that it was not for him to deal with the consequences of the invasion, and, probably, he is glad now that it is not for him to sit in the dock. Especially considering that Smirnov has been his first deputy since 2021. Truly, bureaucratic fates under authoritarianism are unpredictable.

«В сентябре прошлого года у меня был пост о коррупции и идеологии. Как кажется, он вполне актуален и в связи с недавним задержанием недолговечного (май – декабрь 2024 г.) курского губернатора А. Смирнова, в деле которого фигурируют откаты с подрядов (как много в этих звуках!..) на оборонное строительство. Идеология идеологией, война войной, а откаты по расписанию.
Стоит добавить, что предыдущий – до Смирнова – губернатор Курской области Р. Старовойт, ушедший на повышение в новое федеральное правительство в мае 2024 г., то есть ровно за три месяца до вторжения ВСУ в регион, должен быть очень рад сложившимся обстоятельствам. Скорее всего он еще в августе радовался, что не ему расхлебывать последствия вторжения, и, наверное, радуется сейчас, что не ему сидеть на скамье подсудимых. Особенно если учесть, что Смирнов был его первым замом с 2021 г. Воистину, непредсказуемы бюрократические судьбы при авторитаризме.
