“Last January, I already wrote that celebrating the New Year in a pre-trial detention center is gradually becoming a tradition. So, I even met the year 2026 in the same cell as the year 2025. Stability - at least in something! This time, on December 31, I decided not to do anything special, focusing on Christmas on January 7, when, together with a neighbor, I ate an impromptu cake (a classic of “punitive cooking” made from cookies, condensed milk and jam), and also read passages from Matthew and Luke describing the Nativity of Christ. Somehow I didn’t fully realize that the episode with the adoration of the Magi is only in Matthew, and the adoration of the shepherds is only in Luke. For some reason, in my mind they were inseparable.
Among other things, I try to remember what book I read around the New Year: I celebrated 2024 with “Why nations fail?” Robinson and Acemoglu, 2025 - with “Doctor Zhivago” by Pasternak. Now I’ve enjoyed Umberto Eco’s novel “The Island of the Day Before.”
In general, the holidays went quite well, now let's see what 2026 will bring us.

«В прошлом январе я уже писал, что встречать Новый год в СИЗО постепенно становится традицией. Так вот, 2026 год я даже встретил в той же камере, что и год 2025. Стабильность - хоть в чем-то! В этот раз 31 декабря решил ничего особенного не делать, сосредоточившись на Рождестве 7 января, когда вместе с соседом съели импровизированный тортик (классика “карательной кулинарии” из печенья, сгущенки и джема), а также почитали отрывки из Матфея и Луки с описанием Рождества Христова. Я как-то не до конца осознавал, что эпизод с поклонением волхвов есть только у Матфея, а поклонение пастухов - только у Луки. почему-то в моем представлении они были неразлучны.

Помимо прочего стараюсь запоминать, какую книгу читал в районе Нового года: 2024 год встретил с “Why nations fail?” Робинсона и Аджемоглу, 2025 год - с “Доктором Живаго” Пастернака. Сейчас же насладился романом Умберто Эко “Остров накануне”.

В общем, праздники прошли вполне себе, теперь посмотрим, что нам принесет 2026 год.
